Decarbonized Corridors Event

As a part of the Brazil@Nor-shipping programme the Norwegian Research Concil, Norwegian Shipowners' Association and ABRAN is hosting an event on Decarbonized Corridors.

This event, acknowledging the MOU signed between Brazil and Norway at the end of February and the important role of decarbonized corridor initiatives in navigating the green transition for the global shipping industry, will take place at 13:00 on June 5, 2025. Led by conferencier Christine Korme, NSA’s Director for Strategic Profiling and Networking, the event will feature opening remarks by keynote speakers and a 20-minute panel discussion moderated by Mette Tangen, Consul General in Rio de Janeiro, with representatives from NSA, ANTAQ, Hydro, and EPE.

To enable a smooth transition towards net-zero emissions in shipping, a route-based action through decarbonized shipping corridors is increasingly seen as an innovative and guiding approach for lowering emissions beyond national boundaries. Decarbonized corridors represent strategic collaboration structures that can accelerate the uptake of zero or near-zero GHG emission technologies, fuels and energy sources, and involve ambitious cooperation across multiple prominent stakeholder groups in the public and private sectors.

This event, therefore, represents a unique opportunity to hear and gain insights from a broad array of important Brazilian and Norwegian stakeholders, ranging from national governments and industry to R&D institutions and sector-wide associations.

The highlighting of the Brazil-Norway cooperation set out by the MOU, the identification of technical, economic and regulatory priorities inherent to the bilateral corridor-initiative and future decarbonized corridors, and the way in which the development of this corridor can further stimulate and grow maritime innovations with tangible, strategic and demonstrable solutions for reducing emissions from maritime operations globally will be some of the key topics for the event.
