International trade needs global rules

International trade policy was on the agenda when the Norwegian Shipowners' Association invited for seminar together with NHO Monday, 11 June. "Norway is a small and open economy, and is dependent on global trade rules. No country benefits on protectionism and uncertainty, said Foreign Minister Ine Eriksen Søreide in her introduction.

The G7 + meeting this weekend and the forthcoming summit between US President Donald Trump and North Korea's Kim Jung-un this week gave a good background for the debate and introductions.

“Global rules are essential for an international industry like shipping. And recent events, like the meeting in Canada, show how important this theme is," said Harald Solberg, CEO of the Norwegian Shipowners' Association.
