High activity important on the Norwegian continental shelf

The future of the Norwegian continental shelf was the theme on Norwegian Shipowners' Association seminar November 22th. "The situation is still very challenging for many of our members. Only half of the rigs that were active on the Norwegian continental shelf in 2014 are active today, the rates are still very low and not sustainable over time. It is therefore important that the government has stable framework conditions and contributes to a steady and high level of activity on the Norwegian continental shelf, "said CEO Sturla Henriksen.

Chairman of GOE and CEO of Maersk Drilling Jakob Korsgaard emphasized in the opening letter that the companies have cut costs and streamlined, but that 2018 will be a challenging year for many.

“But security is still our “license to operate”. It is worth noting that during a period of brutal conversion, the industry has managed to maintain a very high level of HSE”.

"In a world that needs more energy, the Norwegian oil- and gas industry is part of
the solution, not the problem," said State Secretary in the Ministry of Petroleum and Energy Ingvil Smines Tybring-Gjedde in her post.
She emphasized the government's work on maritime policy and maintaining activity on the Norwegian continental shelf.

Jarand Rystad in Rystad Energy analyzed the rig and oil market. In a panel discussion with Tina Bru (The Conservative Party) and Hege Haukeland Liadal (Labor Party), he also emphasized the importance of several strong players and operators on the Norwegian
continental shelf.
