Andreas Waage Enger Elected New President of the Norwegian Shipowners’ Association

Andreas Waage Enger, CEO of car carrier company Höegh Autoliners, was elected President of the Norwegian Shipowners’ Association at the Association’s General Assembly on 17 March. He will serve for the period 2026–2028.

Enger has served as Vice President of the Association for the past two years. Marianne Møgster of DOF Group has been elected as the new Vice President. Enger takes over the role at a time when global uncertainty is shaping the shipping industry.

“The tense global situation directly impacts shipping. Increased risk, shifting trade patterns, and an increasingly complex digital threat landscape mean that Norwegian shipowners must adapt routes, investments, and market choices. At the same time, we clearly see how crucial Norwegian and allied total preparedness is, and the responsibility the industry carries for supply security and critical infrastructure,” says Enger.

A strong Norwegian merchant fleet plays a vital role in Norway’s overall preparedness and infrastructure, as well as in Norway’s contribution to European and Western security. This security policy importance is closely linked to the industry’s economic weight and its contribution to national value creation.

“Shipping is one of Norway’s largest export industries. Norwegian shipowners enable several trillion kroner in export revenues for their customers and are critical contributors to the installation and operation of essential infrastructure worldwide,” Enger says.

The geopolitical situation is also negatively affecting global climate efforts. The climate agreement that was expected to be signed at the IMO last autumn has been postponed by one year, while the United States has threatened both individuals and countries with sanctions if they vote in favor when the climate regulations are reconsidered at the IMO.

“Despite the breakdown of global climate negotiations, Norwegian shipowners are investing heavily in solutions that reduce emissions. I am proud that the Association’s members are leading the way. While only two percent globally operate or can operate on alternative fuels, the uptake is 17 percent in our member fleet,” Enger says.
