Private ownership

Private ownership
The Norwegian Shipowners’ Association’s ownership policy is based on a conviction that active private ownership provides considerable added value to the entire society.

Shipping has more private, personal ownership than any other industry in Norway. The maritime industry is an important renewable resource for Norway. It represents thousands of jobs and will continue to create opportunities and quality of life along the entire Norwegian coast. The industry is characterised by family dominated structures, which because of tradition, history and the knowledge that comes from experience have felt themselves to be served by remaining in Norway. These companies are an important reason why a large part of the ownership is still controlled from Norway. The Shipowners’ Association works to ensure that the regulatory framework for private ownership of the shipping industry in Norway will be both good and internationally competitive.
